Apple's Site Sees Steady Traffic Throughout MACWORLD Week

by , 11:00 AM EST, January 16th, 2001

Typically MACWORLD mean a spike in interest, and thus traffic, to the Apple Web site. Last week, however, the Apple site did not experience the typical jump in visitors. According to the PC Data Top 10 list, Apple drew just over 1 million visitors. While that represents a solid number, it is not near the 1.5 million reached during MACWORLD NY last July. Apple was third on this week's list, behind Dell and Compaq. The rest of the Top 10 contained no surprises, as hardware makers Gateway, HP, Intel, IBM, and Palm were represented, as well as resellers Egghead and Outpost. After a brief absence, Palm is back in this week's rankings as the only newcomer.

The Mac Observer Spin:

This is actually rather surprising, as there was an incredible amount of attention placed on last week's MACWORLD from the popular press, usually a sign that traffic to Apple will rise dramatically. We are not going to venture any guesses on the reasoning why traffic was solid, rather than spectacular.

Our best guess is that when the new G4 PowerBook starts hitting store shelves, and Apple really turns up the advertising volume, people will be interested in the breathtaking machine and traffic will see a steady rise.
