Sonnet Absorbs Newer Engineering Team

Sonnet Absorbs Newer Engineering Team

by , 7:00 AM EST, January 18th, 2001

Sonnet Technologies has announced that they have hired much of the engineering team from their recently defunct upgrade competitor, Newer Technology. Sonnet and Newer have been the market leaders in the Mac upgrade market for some time, and Sonnet expects the talent from Newer to allow Sonnet to build even better, ground breaking products. According to Sonnet:

Sonnet Technologies, the worldwide market share leader in processor upgrade cards for Apple MacintoshČ computers, has hired all key engineering personnel of Newer Technologies, Inc., the former number two in market share, which closed its doors on December 27, 2000. The now combined engineering team is credited with virtually all upgrade breakthroughs in the past several years, giving Sonnet a clear advantage in solidifying and advancing its worldwide position as the leader in Macintosh upgrade products.

Robert Farnsworth, president and CEO of Sonnet is excited: –Newer always had very good products, and combining their engineering hardware and software resources with the talented Sonnet team will result in some amazing developments in our core markets.” The addition of the Newer team effectively doubles Sonnetęs engineering resources.

Darryl Hinshaw, former vice president of engineering at Newer Technology, joins Sonnet as the director of Sonnetęs new engineering center in Wichita, Kansas. –Weęre very excited to join Sonnet, and to continue working with the products and markets that we most enjoy,” reported Hinshaw. –This group has been working together for years. Having the opportunity to continue to work as a team for a well-managed company to bring new and better Macintosh solutions to market is really a best-case scenario for us.” The group will begin working on new Sonnet projects immediately following acquisition of office space in Wichita.

You can find more information at the Sonnet Technologies Web site.

The Mac Observer Spin:

Many of the advances have come from either Sonnet or Newer of the last year. This move puts Sonnet in a position to be able to produce innovative and powerful products.

In the long run, this will only benefit those Mac users trying to squeeze another year or two of life out of their older machines.
