Image Browser Updated, OS X Support Added

by , 4:00 PM EDT, July 6th, 2001

Andrew Cunningham has updated his image browsing and management tool, Prowler, to version 2.2.1. Prowler allows users to easily organize and view their digital images by providing a simple interface for handling any such images, and the latest version is Carbonized to run natively under Mac OS X. According to Mr. Cunningham:

Announcing the release of Prowler 2.2.1, an update to Andrew Cunningham's image browser, image viewer and management tool.

Prowler is an image browsing and management tool with an intuitive and stylish interface. It's features include a full screen browser, advanced slideshow (cross fades and the unique "scribble" function) and powerful image organizational tools (image rotation, copying, renaming). Prowler's aim is to present a collection of images in an attractive way, either for personal browsing, showing off to friends, or presentations.

Prowler supports all file image formats supported by the currently installed version of QuickTime. These include PICT, JPEG, GIF etc.

What's new in this version?

  • Released an early alpha version of Prowler Carbon. This lets Prowler run natively under MacOS X.
  • Moved the preferences menu item from the edit menu to the application menu under OSX.
  • Added a "Windows" menu under OSX.
  • Added labels to some of the go menu items.
  • Added the ability (under preferences) to set how images are automatically scaled in the full screen mode. Basically, you can have Prowler scale the image to the width of the screen (useful for TiBook users, as suggested by Justin Weiner).
  • Pressing the tab key twice will zoom an image in slideshow to fit the screen if the image is smaller than the screen; as requested by Ken arnold.
  • Bug. Menu would be hidden in Finder. Fixed.

Prowler is available for US$15. You can find more information at Mr. Cunningham's Web site.

Seriously? You're running OS X and you think there's not a lot of software? What exactly are you lacking? The ability to use OS X to remotely fire wombats from trebuchets located in the south of France while at the same time using your G5 to knit a coozy for your tea kettle that has a pattern of a starfish and some unicorns? Because dude, I'm writing that program right now, and then your world will be RAWKED.
