Steve Jobs On CNNfn: Bill Gates Is "Biggest Mac Supporter At Microsoft"

by , 7:00 AM EDT, July 19th, 2001

Steve Jobs was interviewed on CNNfn Wednesday afternoon after the MACWORLD keynote speech. The CNNfn reporter was discussing issues such as Microsoft having been found guilty of being an illegal monopoly, and whether or not Apple would use that as a bargaining tool in future negotiations. Mr. Jobs said that those sorts of actions were not even being discussed at Apple, and that Apple and Microsoft have "the best relations we have ever had, because a lot of people have worked very hard on that."

Mr. Jobs followed that up by asking the reporter "Do you know who the biggest supporter of the Mac is at Microsoft? It's Bill Gates."

The Mac Observer Spin:

These are interesting comments from Mr. Jobs that served as notice that Apple will not be part of any aggressive legal actions towards Microsoft any time soon, if ever. We also have no problem believing Mr. Jobs about Mr. Gates being the biggest fan of the Mac at Microsoft? It doesn't mean that Microsoft isn't a predatory monopolist intent on maintaining that monopoly, but Mr. Gates has always been known as a fan of the Mac itself. Interesting public comments from Mr. Jobs in any event.
