Apple officially unveiled 800 MHz PowerMac dual processor machines at MACWORLD New York during Steve Jobs' keynote. The machines were to ship in September, according to Mr. Jobs, but Elite Computers & Software reports that it has received a shipment of the new computers, well ahead of the original target date. From Elite Computers & Software:

Thought you might like to know that Elite Computers & Software, an Apple Specialist located directly across the street from Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, CA, has received it's first shipment of the new Blazing Fast Power Mac G4 800DP Towers from Apple! "Apple had originally told us it would be some time in September before we would see any of the 800DP's", said Thomas Armes, President & CEO of Elite Computers & Software. "It's a great surprise to see Apple getting these Blazing fast G4 800DP Towers out quicker then expected!"

Store hours are Monday-Friday 9AM-9PM, Saturday & Sunday 10AM-9PM. Elite Computers & Software can be reached at 408-257-8000.

You can find more information on Elite Computers & Software at the retailer's Web site, but as of this writing, that site was not reachable.

The Mac Observer Spin:

Apple either hedged its bets, or was able to get in enough processors to begin manufacturing early. Whatever the case, Kudos to Apple, Motorola, and any other supplier that was involved. It's great that the company can execute ahead of promised delivery times. Note that recent orders for Apple's mid-range single processor 867 MHz units have been given a delivery time of 4-6 weeks. If anyone has ordered a DP 800 MHz system, give a check for your delivery time and post a note in the comments below.

Now, if only Apple could surprise us with an early release of OS X 10.1, we'd be doing back flips inside the Mac Observer Towers. Software issues are not likely to be miraculously solved ahead of schedule, however, and we will be perfectly content to see a September delivery of the next Mac OS X update. Mac OS X 10.1 was also scheduled to be released sometime in September, and the rumor sites are reporting that OS X 10.1 is just now entering the beta stage.
