The Stoner Hub: Welcome To iBong

by , 11:00 AM EST, March 18th, 2002

We thought the MacQuarium, was alone in the category of unusual-things-to-do-with-your-old-Mac, but according to a new article in Wired, your old Mac SE 30 can do more than provide shelter for a few goldfish. Two stoner geeks, "Agapornis" and "Prozac," have created the first addition to what we like to call The Stoner Hub. From the Wired article:

The Mac Bong, or iBong, is made from a water-filled bong mounted inside an old Mac SE 30. The bowl of the bong protrudes from the front of the computer, just below the screen. The mouthpiece sticks out the back. "It looks like any other dingy Mac," said Prozac. "But it doesn't draw as much suspicion if you do have to take it outside the house. We haven't taken it to Macworld, but it has been to a couple of computer swap meets. People like it. They laugh. It gets the usual, 'Whoa, dude, that's crazy' reaction. Everyone wants to try it."

Allegations that pot use fueled the "think different" revolution are discussed in the article, with both sides weighing in, and neither argument really holding much water. For more info on the perils of pickle jar bong-ing and whether or not the original Mac geeks had the munchies, head over and read the full article.

The Mac Observer Spin:

Have you ever tried to do any serious programming after a few bong hits? Though it's fun speculation, we have our doubts that our favorite platform would have evolved in the manner it did had everyone been wasted at work. One can never be too sure about these things though.
