Macromedia's Dreamweaver Also Comes To Mac OS X With Dreamweaver MX

In addition to Fireworks MX, Macromedia introduced Dreamweaver MX today. Dreamweaver MX is the newest version of Dreamweaver, but it combines elements of the company's UltraDev product, as well as HomeSite, the company's code editor. Dreamweaver MX will run on Mac OS X, and the upgrade is deigned to further integrate the company's several Web development offerings. From Macromedia:

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX is part of the new MX product family, including Macromedia Flash(TM) MX, Macromedia ColdFusion® MX, and Macromedia Fireworks® MX. Macromedia MX products deliver rich Internet applications across leading platforms and devices. The new tools share a consistent workspace and increased support for accessibility and usability. Macromedia Studio MX includes Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Flash MX, Macromedia FreeHand® 10, Macromedia Fireworks MX, and a developer edition of Macromedia ColdFusion MX.

Dreamweaver MX combines ease and power in one integrated development environment for ColdFusion, HTML, XHTML, ASP, Microsoft ASP.NET, JSP, and PHP Web sites. The product enables complete control over code and design with precision layout tools and high-powered coding features like code hints, tag editors, extensible color coding, tag choosers, snippets, and code validation. The new integrated workspace, shared with Macromedia Flash MX and FireworksMX, includes tabbed document windows, dockable panel groups, customizable toolbars, and integrated file browsing. Also, for the first time, Dreamweaver includes professional-quality, pre-built layouts and code, including site structures, forms, accessible templates, and JavaScript functions for client-side interactivity.

With the introduction of Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia will no longer develop or sell Dreamweaver UltraDev or ColdFusion Studio as separate products. HomeSite+, a separate application included with Dreamweaver MX, has the combined functionality of ColdFusion Studio 5 and HomeSite 5. HomeSite 5 will continue to be available for standalone sale.

The company is offering upgrades from previous versions of Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver UltraDev, and ColdFusion Studio for US$199. Version in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish are expected to be available at a "later date."
