by , 2:00 PM EDT, June 25th, 2002

4D, Inc. has released an update for 4D Portal, bringing it to version 1.5. 4D Portal is a Web development tool designed for building components for information management. The update features OS X support and other enhancements including shipment of the Portal source code for expanded customability. According to 4D, Inc:

4D, Inc., publishers of the 4th Dimension RAD/RDBMS Environment and 4D WebSTAR Server Suite, today announced the immediate release of 4D Portal v1.5 and the availability of the Web portal application's source code.

Now 4D Portal v1.5 supports Mac(R) OS X and contains several feature enhancements to the "portlet" components. The source code for 4D Portal v1.5 is also now available, allowing easy, complete customization of individual portlets in the 4D Portal Web application with the 4D development environment.

Comprised of components or "portlets" such as Calendar, Task Manager, Forums, Surveys, Chat, and more, 4D Portal handles the information management and productivity needs of a variety of businesses and organizations. A stand-alone application, 4D Portal includes a built-in Web server or can be run as CGI to 4D WebSTAR V. Users can easily create Web-enabled, data-driven applications to improve workflow and productivity, all with a single tool.

You can find more information about 4D Portal release at the 4D, Inc. Web site. 4D Portal 1.5 is available as freeware.
