by , 7:00 AM EDT, July 30th, 2002

Ruedi Schmid has released an update for Stargazer's Delight, bringing it to version 6.1. Stargazer's Delight is a desktop planetarium featuring deep-sky objects and asteroids. The update features the moons of Jupiter and other performance enhancements. According to Ruedi Schmid:

Ruedi Schmid, the developer of Stargazer's Delight, the astronomical desktop planetarium for Macintosh, announces the release of the new version 6.0 for Mac OS 8/9 and OS X.

Stargazer's Delight, a fully featured desktop planetarium and sky simulator, is a comprehensive and entertaining guide to the heavens for first time stargazers as well as ambitious hobby astronomers.

It offers views of the sky for any date and for any location on Earth. You can see all the stars up to magnitude 10 (over 260,000 stars), the Sun, the Moon, the planets, the brightest asteroids and hundreds of deep-sky objects such as galaxies, clusters and nebulas.

Specific changes in version 6.1:

  • A new Extra: The moons of Jupiter. See the positions of the four Galilean Moons in an animated view!
  • New 'live update' feature. Let the program redraw the view as time passes
  • 2 small printing issues fixed
  • Fixed a bug that drew some windows too wide on some monitors
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes closed the 'set date' dialog window too early

You can find more information about Stargazer's Delight update at the Stargazer Software Web site. Stargazer's Delight 6.1 is available for US$29.00.
