QuickTime Quick Picks - The Four Feathers And Lots Of Fur
by , 9:00 AM EDT, July 31st, 2002
This installment of QTQP takes us not directly to Apple's Movie trailer site (we'll get there in a bit), but to the website of those curiously strong mints, Altoids. They've come up with a new product, curiously strong sour candies. The candies are interesting but the QuickTime commercials on their 'Gone Sour' website are a riot. We like The Science Class.
Now, on to the trailers.
When was the last time you sat down in a theater to watch a grand epic, one with a scope so large it stretched your mind? We enjoy movies like that. Good ones juxtapose the details of the main character's life with expansive backdrops. The combination, if done well, draws you in and keeps you riveted to your chair, and you leave the theater with serious thoughts of travel. We believe The Four Feathers will be such a movie. Check out the trailer and you get a hint at the sense of awe and adventure that may await you. We can't wait to see this one.
FYI: You've likely seen the actor who plays the African character in other grand tales like Gladiator and Amistad. He is Djimon Hounsou, and we think he's someone to watch.
Other trailers of note:
- The Gray Zone: A story of the Jews in German death camps in World War II. It has David Arquette in a dramatic role and he looks convincing. This looks like one of those movies that you have to see but can only watch once.
- Igby Goes Down: A rich kid suffers through angst. It stars Susan Sarandon, Jeff Goldblum, and Kieran Culkin. It actually looks to be entertaining.
- Sweet Home Alabama: Reese Witherspoon has shunned her rural country roots for the glamour of New York's high society fashion cliques and gets a proposal that would knock most women on the floor. Of course nothing is easy. She first has to get divorced from her bumpkin husband. This one's a toss-up.
- Pinocchio: It's live action but does not contain a CGI wooden boy, thank goodness! From viewing the trailer, the elaborate sets and costumes remind us of Moulin Rouge as well as a good quality stage production. Roberto Benigni plays the clown-suited Pinocchio, and it could be good.
- White Oleander: Alison Lohman deals with teenage angst. Her mother is played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Renee Zellweger also stars. With two big names we hope there's more to this movie than what the trailer shows.
- Blood Work: This is the second trailer for the new Clint Eastwood movie, which looks pretty good.
That's it for now. Stop by Apple's QuickTime site for other cool visual goodies.
