Apple Adds Canada To Free Jaguar For Teachers Program

Apple Adds Canada To Free Jaguar For Teachers Program

by , 9:00 AM EST, October 31st, 2002

Canadian teachers take note: Apple has added Canada to its program to give free copies of Jaguar to teachers. Apple launched such a program in the US earlier this month, and many Observers from other parts of the world have been asking if other countries will be included. Yesterday, Apple Canada's Web site added a page offering the program to Canadian teachers. From that Web page:

Apple wants to provide every K-12 teacher in Canada with a free copy of Mac OS X v10.2 "Jaguar." This program is designed to show teachers the stability and manageability of Mac OS X and how it gives them a powerful foundation for integrating technology into their classrooms.

Program details
From now through December 31, 2002, qualifying K-12 teachers can order their free "X for Teachers Kit," which provides everything a teacher needs to learn and become comfortable with Mac OS X including:

  • Getting Started with Mac OS X Training CD filled with practice exercises, tips, and over 80 QuickTime movies
  • Mac OS X v10.2 (Jaguar) Install CD Set
  • Telephone support for 90 days
  • Manual and License Agreement

Do I qualify?
To qualify for the "X for Teachers" program you must be a Canadian K-12 teacher currently employed by a provincially accredited institution, in a school district or private school and you must agree to have software delivered to your school address.

How do I order?
To order your "X for Teachers Kit" simply apply online - we'll ask a few questions to verify you and your school. The rest is automatic. Teachers should receive the "X for Teachers Kit" within 8 weeks of placing their order.

You can find more information on the program at Apple Canada's Web site.

The Mac Observer Spin:

We are happy to see Apple extend the program into other markets, and we hope the company sees fit, and is able, to do so. Offering Jaguar to teachers might, possibly, help reverse Apple's decline in the education market place. In addition to the simple exposure to the goodness we know as Jaguar, it is important for Apple to once again let teachers, educators, and administrators know that Apple considers them important. We think that has been one of the casualties of Apple having pulled its education sales force in house. We'll be watching this to see if it has a positive effect.
