Apple Knowledge Base Article - Keyboard Shortcut May Conflict With Classic Applications In OS X 10.2
by , 10:00 AM EST, December 24th, 2002
Apple has added a new article to the Knowledge Base regarding a keyboard shortcut that can quit the Classic environment without notice. Apple's Knowledge Base (sometimes referred to as the KBase) is a central location for all of Apple's support documents and other important information.
If the command Command-Option-Shift-Q is used while using a Classic application, the Classic environment will force quit, losing all unsaved data. The solution is to avoid using this key comination until Apple provides a fix. From Apple:
Symptom
Using the keyboard shortcut Command-Option-Shift-Q in Mac OS X 10.2 while using the Classic environment immediately causes the Classic environment, and any applications open it, to quit without warning.
Important: Any unsaved data in open Classic applications will be lost when the Classic environment quits.
Products affected
- Third-party Classic applications that use the Command-Option-Shift-Q keyboard shortcut.
- Mac OS X 10.2 to 10.2.2
Solution
Apple is investigating this issue and will update this Knowledge Base document when more information is available.
Until a permanent solution is found, you should avoid using the keyboard shortcut Command-Option-Shift Q when using Classic applications.
To restart the Classic environment click Restart in the Classic preference pane.
Note: This only restarts the Classic environment, it does not restart the computer.
You can find the new Knowledge Base article at Apple's Web site.
