iPod Sighting: Jon Stewart's Daily Show Uses iPod In US Budget Joke

iPods have been showing up just about everywhere, but we caught an iPod joke we thought you would enjoy. On Tuesday night's The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart launched the show by poking fun at the new US proposed budget of US$2.23 trillion. His choice of vehicle for poking that fun? The iPod.

According to Mr. Stewart, who went through the budget "line by line," US$400 million has been set aside to buy everyone new iPods. "The world needs music, and the president was very clear about that," he said.

Now, it's more than possible that we are utterly unable to convey how funny the gag was, but it was very funny indeed.

The Mac Observer Spin:

More importantly, it's interesting that the iPod was presented as being synonymous with music, and that no explanation of what an iPod is was included with the joke. Think about that for a second; it shows that Apple's iPod has somehow reached critical mass in our culture in only a few months, with nary a bit of marketing other than the TV commercial with the goofy guy dancing on his way out the door.

Then again, maybe it was only the geeks (like us) in the audience who got the joke.
