Apple Australia Looks For New Head
by , 9:00 AM EST, February 10th, 2003
Advertising-oriented The Age is reporting that Apple's Australian operations are looking for a new chief exec. The magazine says that current head Ben Bowley will be leaving at the end of March, and that Apple is looking for a replacement. The reason, according to quotes from Mr. Bowley included in the article, is that he wishes to start a tourism company. From The Age:
Mr. Bowley said on Friday that he wanted to start his own business.
"I am very involved with general aviation, as a private pilot, and I love the bush. I've got an idea for putting the two together in a tourism venture; something a bit different that will take people to some of the really great areas of Australia that are not on the usual routes," he said.
Despite his senior post at Apple, Mr. Bowley is only 35.
"If I don't try to do my own thing now I may never do it," he said.
He leaves Apple Australia in good shape. "We had a good last quarter, despite the tough trading conditions, and we have another good one coming up," Mr Bowley said. "The business is strong."
