SecureMac.com Shipping New Beta Version Of MacScan

SecureMac.com Shipping New Beta Version Of MacScan

by , 4:00 PM EST, March 3rd, 2003

SecureMac.com has released a new beta version of MacScan, bringing it to b3. MacScan is a security utility designed for detecting spyware applications. The latest beta version improves spyware detection and adds administration detection. According to SecureMac.com:

The spyware detection and removal tool MacScan b3 is available for download (Mac OS Classic / Mac
OS X).

Spyware programs are NOT viruses; many of the programs MacScan detects and protects against are overlooked by popular scanning applications.

When MacScan finds any keystroke logs, loggers, or remote administration applications (commonly leading to remote access or a backdoor to the computer) it will extract known information from the applications allowing for the administrator to isolate how long the devices have been installed, and make it possible to trace how the program was installed and who the intruder or vandal may be.

This new version adds support for more spyware detection and also adds administration full scan for Mac OS X to audit the system.

You can find more information about the beta version of MacScan at the Securemac.com Web site. MacScan is currently available as freeware while in the beta testing period.
