Moby Talks Up iPod In Rolling Stone
by , 5:00 PM EDT, April 30th, 2003
Musician Moby has been talking up the iPod again. Already featured in a promo movie shown by Apple, Moby also had some very nice things to say about the iPod in the May issue of Rolling Stone Magazine. From the interview:
Two years ago, I had a meeting with some people from Apple wherein I was singing the praises for iTunes. My only problem with iTunes, I said, was that there wasn't a portable MP3 player that was proprietary for the Mac. They kind of looked at each other with shifty eyes and said, "Well, we shouldn't show this to you, because it's only a prototype, but here it is . . ." and they handed me the first-ever iPod. I couldn't get my hands off of it. Now you can't imagine music any other way. I can be sitting on an airplane and think to myself: "Self, wouldn't you like to listen to the first Roxy Music record?" And there it is. I would have burned out the first four Roxy Music albums on vinyl by now.

The Mac Observer Spin:
Did somebody order a side of SuperHype for Apple recently? Everyone, and their brother, is talking about Apple, Apple's music store, and the iPod. Most of the things that are being said are quite positive, as well, and that's a very, very good thing. Apple's stock has even started trending back up, and the general consensus is that Apple is on the right track, at least with its newfound music business.Moby's comments are interesting because artist opinion will be a major factor in how successful the Apple Music Store can be. Cooperation from these artists, and perhaps a commercial or two, could really steer people to the new service. Certainly free spots like this interview, though it was specifically about the iPod, also bring positive vibes Apple's way.
