by , 1:00 PM EDT, June 27th, 2003

FireWire Depot is now shipping two new devices, the FireNEX 1394b Optical Repeater and the DB-35U Flash Card Reader. The FireNEX is a signal repeater designed for sending data up to 500 meters via optical cable. The DB-35U is a flash card reader designed to support six different types of storage cards. According to The FireWire Depot:

Again proving its effort to bring to the market the finest FireWire and USB products available, FireWire Depot, the leading developer and distributor of FireWire peripherals, today announced the immediate availability of the FireNEX 1394b Optical Repeater and a USB to 6-in-1 Compact Flash Card Reader.

The first product announced by FireWire Depot and ready for shipping soon is the FireNEX 1394b Optical Repeater. It is capable of sending IEEE1394 signals across an optical fiber cable up to 500 meters in length. It takes only minutes to setup, and there is no configuration necessary. The compact FireNEX800 is ideal for professional audio and video transmission applications such as broadcasting, scientific research, military, and medical monitoring systems where high-speed transfers over a long distance are of concern.

FireWire Depot also announces the immediate availability of DB-35U 6in1 - a USB 6-in-1 Compact Flash Card Reader. The DB-35U 6in1 supports six different kinds of storage cards: CompactFlash, SmartMedia, IBM Microdrive, MemoryStick, MultiMedia-Card, and Secure Digital Card.

DB-35U 6in1's key features include an advanced power management scheme, ability of hot swapping for all cards, auto-detection of card removal & insertion, support of inter-copying among all cards, and USB 1.1 Full Speed/USB 2.0 Full Speed compliant. Operating Systems support includes Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98, Mac OS, and Linux.

You can find more information about the new products at the FireWire Depot Web site. The FireNEX 1394b Optical Repeater is available for US$888.95, and the USB to 6-in-1 Compact Flash Card Reader retails for US$49.00.
