XRay Updated With Improved Performance
by , 7:00 AM EST, November 24th, 2003
Rainer Brockerhoff has released a maintenance update for XRay, bringing it to version 1.0.8. XRay is a file utility designed to be more extensive than the Mac OS "Show Info" function. The update features improved performance and bug fixes. According to Rainer Brockerhoff:
Rainer Brockerhoff announces the release of version 1.0.8 of XRay, the File/Folder information utility for Mac OS X.
XRay offers users a much more detailed view of files, folders, applications and volumes than Mac OS X's "Show Info" window does. Permissions can be changed without resorting to obscure terminal commands. Type, creator and extension can be examined and changed, and their effect on file-application binding is shown immediately. Types, creators and extensions can be selected from pop-up menus built from the system's own databases.
This version has several bug fixes and new features, among them:
- The "Type, Creator & Extension" panel now has a batch changing mode: Type and Creator can be changed for all files inside a given folder. "Lock" and "Invisible" flags can be cleared, and resource forks removed at the same time. Several safeguards are included to minimize unwanted side-effects
- You can now drag applications or files onto sections of the "Type, Creator & Extension" panel and it will use that item to set the options in that section
- The XRay Contextual Menu now works around a bug in Panther's Launch Services to locate the XRay application more reliably
- Images in XRay's help windows don't blur anymore if you resize the window
- Removing the Trash on Panther now works correctly, without disabling the Finder's Trash function
- The Trash icon and the Finder Trash are updated correctly when moving stuff to the Trash or emptying the Trash from inside XRay
You can find more information about the XRay update at the Rainer Brockerhoff Web site. XRay 1.0.8 is available for US$10.00.
