TMO Letters - Drudgery, Dual 1.8 GHz G5s, White Rabbits, And Honkies
by , 1:00 PM EST, December 4th, 2003
TMO turns five years old this December 28th, and counting our roots as Webintosh, we'll be seven, come January. We figured it was about time we started a regular Comments feature. After all, our readers have a lot to say, and sometimes it is even nice. Our purpose for this feature is to give a voice to both our critics and fans, so feel free to let us know what you think. Note that we may reciprocate, however.
Earlier this week, we referenced a blurb published by the Drudge Report in an article titled Drudge Report: Disney CEO Eisner Calls Steve Jobs "Shiite Muslim." Mr. Drudge then deleted his blurb and replaced it with a link to our story, which resulted in almost 50,000 Drudge Report readers visiting TMO. While there are tons of comments in that article (it's somewhat of a flamefest, as you might expect), we got but one e-mail on the subject.

When you start quoting the Drudge Report you become a rumor mill not a reputable source for information. Next time Drudge is reference you loose me as a subscriber.

Thanks for the note. I am sorry to hear you didn't care for our coverage of Drudge's information, but I believe that we presented that information appropriately, and I stand behind that coverage. - Bryan
Vivian wrote to us with some thoughts on Apple's Power Mac G5 1.8 GHz dual processor update:

Am I the only person who paid for a 1.8GHz Power Mac almost the day after Steve Jobs announced the spiffy new G5 line... who patiently waited months for it to be delivered... who now feels cheated and ripped-off... when, barely two months after taking delivery of my cutting-edge 64-bit computer, Apple releases a dual-processor 1.8GHz G5 at the same price point as my instantly obsolete model?
This sucks!
Lets add insult to injury, shall we? My ATA hard drive has crashed, and must be replaced. And Apple doesn't pay for data recovery.
This really sucks!

Sorry to hear about the timing, Vivian. We should note, however, that your G5 is hardly obsolete; it's still just as fast and useful as the day you got it. More so, actually, because now you have Panther. That might not be what you want to hear, but it's true. - Bryan
Today's Apple Death Knell Counter update brought with it a very funny observation from Jonathan Richard.

Relevant Quote: Investors may be asking themselves what Apple can do to revive its fortunes. The likely answer, unfortunately, is that Steve Jobs has no white rabbits left in his hat...Was this before the white iPod? Funny.

It sure was before the release of the iPod, which was released in October of 2001, and was certainly a white rabbit that Steve Jobs pulled out of his hat. - Bryan
We're saving the absolute best, in that incredibly ironic sort of way, for last. Tom Rennick sent the following e-mail to TMO contributing editor Vern Seward regarding his excellent column on Political Correctness. We are bleeping out some of it, as Tom's inability to communicate like an adult is eclipsed only by his lack of discernment.

I found your racist article offensive, you f***ing honkie.
Suck my d***.

Tom, you have no idea how hard this particular e-mail made us laugh. - Bryan
