Apple Offers Student Developer Scholarship For WWDC

Apple Offers Student Developer Scholarship For WWDC

by , 2:00 PM EST, March 1st, 2004

Apple's ADC (Apple Developer Connection) is offering some student developers a free scholarship to attend this year's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). The WWDC is Apple's annual gathering of developers, a platform from which the company communicates its direction to developers, and offers training and other tools to help those developers make better Mac apps.

While Apple offers a student package to make it easier for young developers to make the trek to the WWDC, the scholarships make it even easier for the winning students by making the student e-ticket free of charge. From the WWDC Web site:

Student Developers
The Apple Developer Connection is offering student scholarships to attend this year's Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco, California June 28 through July 2, 2004. Winners of a student scholarship receive a free student e-ticket to the conference. To put that in perspective, the regular attendee price is a cool US$1,595.

You can apply for a scholarship online, right now. Be sure to have a PDF version of your resume on hand, because you'll need to upload it as part of the application form. All applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM Pacific time, Friday, March 12, 2004.

To be eligible for a scholarship to WWDC 2004, you must be currently enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college or university, have a student identification number, and be at least 18 years of age.

Once your application has been submitted, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail with instructions regarding verification of your student status. Please read this message carefully. ADC will notify all applicants of their application status by March 31.

More information about the WWDC Student Program will be posted on this page soon. Please visit the ADC Student Program page to see the resources available to student developers.

For more information on the student scholarships, visit the WWDC Web site.

The Mac Observer Spin:

We like this. We like to see Apple reaching out to young developers in every way possible, and these scholarships definitely do that. We just wish Apple could offer many hundreds (or thousands) of such scholarships, but even a few will mean that many new developers entering the world of Mac development.

If you think you are eligible, TMO encourages you to apply for a scholarship.
