OpenOSX Updates WinTel With Internal Modem Support

by , 1:00 PM EDT, April 27th, 2004

OpenOSX has released an update for WinTel, bringing it to version 1.2.1. WinTel is an application designed for controlling Bochs, a Windows OS emulator for Macs. The update features internal modem support and setting saving. According to OpenOSX:

OpenOSX today announced the immediate availability of WinTel 1.2.1 for Mac OS X, offering an easy-to-use solution for configuring and utilizing the included optimized open source “Bochs” software, allowing operation of x86/Pentium(R)-based operating systems on Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

This newest edition brings updated software, additional features, along with enhanced performance and stability.

For maximum operation on the PowerMac G5, OpenOSX "hand-built" Bochs with IBM's advanced "XL C++" compiler, delivering about 25% increased performance over the official Bochs 2.1.1 binaries. WinTel will automatically utilize the optimal version on the PowerMac G4 or G5.

This is the first version of WinTel to offer support for an internal modem, and the ability to save settings. WinTel also offers limited support for the following technologies: a virtual Network Interface Card (NIC), "Sound Blaster"(R) compatible card, USB, and 32-bit color SVGA Video.

You can find more information about the WinTel update at the OpenOSX Web site. The update is free for registered users, while the full version is available for US$25.00.
