Grant To Provide Apple Laptops To Six Texas School Districts

by , 11:00 AM EDT, June 28th, 2004

A local TV station in Lubbock, TX is reporting that a grant through Texas Tech will be providing laptops to teachers and students in Floydada Junior High school, a Lubbock school. The short report also says that five other school districts will also participate in the grant. From that report:

On Friday, Texas Tech announced the partnership which includes Floydada ISD, Apple Computer Inc. and the Region 17 Education Service Center. The $350,000 grant will give each student and teacher at Floydada Junior High a lap-top computer to use in the classroom.

You can find the full report at KCBD's Web site, which we found through our friends at Macworld UK. TMO is working to get details on the grant.

The Mac Observer Spin:

It's been a while since we heard any good news about Apple in the education market, but this definitely qualifies as such.

Apple is rolling the dice on its one-to-one program. It's the focus of the company's educational sales effort.

It's nice to see another district choosing the cost-effective Apple option to put technology into the hands of students.
