New iPod Features: 12 Hour Battery, Lower Prices; Goodbye 15GB

TMO Reports - New iPod Features: 12 Hour Battery, Lower Prices; Goodbye 15GB

by , 8:00 AM EDT, July 18th, 2004

Further details of the new white iPod, to be officially announced by Apple Monday, have surfaced through a sidebar story accompanying Newsweek magazines feature article on Apple CEO Steve Jobs and the iPod phenomenon.

Key features of the new iPod are:

- 50% improvement in battery life to 12 hours from the current eight through better power conservation.

- A click wheel identical in design and functionality to that of the iPod mini.

- A thinner iPod by one millimeter.

- More efficient menus, so there's less thumbing through to get to content.

- New ability to create multiple playlists and delete songs from them.

- Variable speed control to listen to content faster or slower.

- No new hard drive sizes, but lower prices. The 20GB will now cost US$299 from $399 and the 40GB model will cost $399 from $499. The 15GB is being phased out.

At the time of this writing, access to the sidebar story was unavailable due to a "Network Error".

Subject: What iTunes cards?

Oh, and I went to my THREE local Target stores (god I love living in the city) to see if I could scout some iTunes cards. I looked, and saw some Napster cards. But, I didn't find any iTunes cards. So I thought, "gee, maybe these things really did sell out fast." So, I asked the store clerks at each store when they were getting in more iTunes cards, and each clerk gave me the same reply: "We don't carry those anymore. They weren't very popular. We switched to Napster."

Ooops.

iPod sucks because:

- In place of firewire and USB ports, it has a proprietary connector that lead to an ecosystem of accessories available

- So easy to use that even my 6 years old son know how to use it without I teaching him

- I cannot show off my abilities to use a sophisticated gadget because it auto-sync with iTunes to transfer songs seamlessly

Subject: Which is a better buy?

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a Creative Labs Jukebox Zen Xtra, or an Ipod. The Jukebox Zen Xtra, 60 GB, can be bought at about 250$, while an ipod is waaaaay more. Although ipod has itunes, I can transfer music from my computer to the jzx for only 75 cents, instead of 99 like itunes does, because of online rhapsody, and for that i also get a cd.....I'm pretty sure the jzx is better, but what do you guys suggest...?

Link.

I'm pretty sure I don't need to put a link for an iPod description...

Wow get excited about 12 hour battery life, the Dell DJ 15 has 20 hour battery life and costs only $199. The Dell DJ 15 holds over 3700 songs at 128 kbps. You don't need a 20 GB player, it's Apple's way of extracting an extra $100 out of Apple iLemmings and locking them into the overpriced iTunes store.

Too bad the iPod didn't win CNET Editor's Choice like the Dell DJ.

I won't even bother deleting this one because it is so ironic. The Dell DJ was discontinued because it couldn't compete. My very own pet troll is too stupid and too hell-bent on pestering people by modifying my posts to even realize it!
