Apple Updates Mac OS X To 10.3.5: Blueooth, FireWire, Mail, More

Apple released an update for Panther, bringing Mac OS X to version 10.3.5. The new update includes a variety of bug fixes and new features, including improvements to Bluetooth, FireWire, Mail, Image Capture, font support, and more. From the release notes:

The 10.3.5 Update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther" and is recommended for all users.

Key enhancements include:

improved support for NTFS formatted volumes
improves reliability for user logins and mounting of home directories in a networked environment
updated ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers
improved Bluetooth compatibility for Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse and Bluetooth phones
additional FireWire and USB device compatibility
improved font management
updated Mail and Image Capture applications
improved compatibility for third party applications
previous standalone security updates

You can download the update through Software Update, and the download weighs in at 43 MB. You can find more information on the update at Apple's Knowledge Base.

Apple also released a separate security update called Security Update 2004-08-09 today, and TMO has confirmed that this security update is included in Mac OS X 10.3.5. Apple is providing a link to an article on Mac OS X security updates, but that article does not include .

As usual with these point updates, I can't tell the difference. But I guess that's partly due to the age of my hardware, and partly due to it being bug fixes for bugs I've not encountered.

My fears pertaining to Apple's small and diminishing market share are coming to pass.

Check out this link. A new 2 TB, yes 2 trillion bytes of data..storage card, and notice the lack of Firewire support. Of course most digital cameras have USB ports. Firewire lost that race. There use to be a
Firewire website, but alas it is now deserted.

Tis really a crying shame. Apple, if only you were good at selling computors.

Nice troll. Misguided, but nice.

If you look at the table in the link you provided, that lists MAXIMUM CAPACITY, not existing capacity (ie there is no 2TB card in existence. It is a theoretical maximum, if that number is even correct, which I am having doubts about). Why do I say this? Because, if you do a little research, you will find that the largest Memory Stick Pro ever produced (by Sandisk) is 2GB, not 2TB, and it costs over $1000. http://www.sandisk.com/pressrelease/20040108d.html
I actually question any of the TB listings. None of them actually exist. Oops, in researching a little more, I find that the maximum theoretical capacity of Memory Stick Pro is 32GB, not the quoted 2TB. Kinda makes the rest of the numbers suspect.

Also, Firewire most certainly did win in video cameras, not digital snapshot cameras, because DV cameras need much higher sustained transfer rates than photo cameras.

What website is deserted? Lots of websites die. Really lousy addition to your argument. You can find all sorts of info about Firewire at dvcentral.org and Firewiredepot.com.

Besides, all current machines produced by Apple support USB2 in addition to Firewire, so your fears are unfounded. Apple hardware is MORE COMPATIBLE with these technologies than most x86 machines.

The 10.3.5 update has created an issue wherin SP G5 1.8's can no longer enter sleep properly.
