.Mac Users Get Free WingNuts, More

Apple's .Mac online service periodically offers free, or reduced cost, software to it; continuing that tradition, .Apple is now offering .Mac users a free download of WingNuts, the popular game from Freeverse Software. From Apple:

You'll log hours of exhilarating flight time with WingNuts, an arcade-style game from Freeverse that puts you in pursuit of a time-traveling airforce of robot planes. Winner of a "5 mice" rating from MacWorld magazine, WingNuts features a sizzling soundtrack, spectacular graphics, and gameplay that gets downright nutty. A US$19.95 value, WingNuts is free for .Mac members until Nov. 10, 2004.

Apple is also offering .Mac users a 25% discount on another Freeverse game, Airburst Extreme. From Apple:

Airburst Extreme, the sequel to the award-winning Airburst, once again puts you into space as aliens playing paddleball atop a giant pod (or Floater) surrounded by smaller, protective balloons. Use the paddle and balls to pop your opponents' balloons-while protecting yours. I just accepted when I joined up 2 years ago that I'd be getting shafted for keeping my email address, however Apple has really made this a valuable package.

Thus far I've found lots of uses for the gifts and perks of .mac membership, even if it's only something as mundane as an expanded demo for new games like Nanosaur 2. The functionality and Apple's knack for offering some really excellent 3rd Party software deals (like Wingnuts for free) makes renewing my membership something that doesn't make me wince - a feat I considered impossible when .mac was unveiled. An internet charged-subscription service that's worth its price? Almost seems absurd.

I don't think the issue is .Mac. The issue may be from where you have either posted an e-mail address (including public forums) or filled out a form and the site made your address available to spammers.

I get virtually no spam at my .Mac address but have other addresses flooded with spam due to my work as a writer.
