Alpine Electronics of America Inc. announced Tuesday it is shipping its Interface Adapter for the Apple iPod.
The US$100 KCA-420i enables users using any of Alpine's 2004 Ai-NET in-dash head units to interface with Apple's iPod and iPod mini.
First announced in January, The Alpine Interface Adapter for iPod is a hide-away design and can be installed anywhere in the vehicle. A single cable connects the adapter to the Alpine head unit, while a second cable connects the adapter to the iPod through the iPod dock connector. When the vehicle is on, the Interface Adapter also charges the iPod's internal battery.

Hmm. From the demo it's a bit of a kludge, albeit a lot more elegant than the BMW one. Press this little button here, then this one over here, then the volume knob, then the other button twice...
Sheesh.
And since many people are stupid, they'll be doing all this in traffic and, next thing you know, the usual gaggle of self-appointed nannies will be calling for laws to ban iPods in vehicles.
Frankly, considering the sorry state of my local radio market, all I need is a pre-amp to switch between the iPod and a satellite radio receiver, connect to an amplifier, and control the volume. The AM/FM is useless and CD is superfluous, so leave them out.

Similar device has been out for years when you could connect any device with auxiliary input to apline stereo! A.K.A. Blitz safe adapter for $80 and professional installation you get yourself full hook up!
I'm not familiar witht that, but it sounds to me like you'd still need to control the iPod itself.
I already have a way to hook my iPod to my car's radio. The important thing here is that the radio itself can be used to select songs.
