Analyst: "iPod Has Made Apple Cool Again"

by , 3:15 PM EDT, October 15th, 2004

An analyst with Key Corp.'s Victory Asset Management has stripped down Apple's recent success to its core, saying that the iPod has made Apple cool again. The comment was given to a Bloomberg reporter, and published in an article covering Wednesday's financial results from Apple. From the article:

''The iPod has made Apple cool again, and what you're seeing is that people didn't give a lot of thought until now to what being cool again means in terms of the financials,'' said Marty Shagrin, an analyst in Cleveland at Key Corp.'s Victory Asset Management, which manages $50 billion and owns 4.3 million Apple shares. ``Even though there was a lot of enthusiasm about iPod and Apple's business, this is just surprising.''

You can find the full article at the Miami Herald's Web site.

The Mac Observer Spin:

Mr. Shagrin has pretty much summed it up nicely, though it is perhaps to Michael Dell's chagrin. That's a cheap joke, perhaps, but our point is that this coolness is helping to fund all of Apple's product efforts, including development of the Mac platform; and though Apple's market share has slipped, Mac are growing year over year, meaning the Mac community is growing.
