Netgear Unveils First Available 108 Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router

by , 8:00 AM EST, November 16th, 2004

Netgear Inc. on Monday unveiled the Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router.

The company claims the new networking product is the first 108 Megabit per second wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router that combines an ADSL2+ modem, a router, a four-port 10/100 LAN switch, an SPI double firewall and a 108Mbps "Super G" wireless access point.

Its Ethernet ports are capable of speeds up to 200Mbps, and it can share one IP address with up to 253 users. It also features Universal Plug and Play, and Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through, and a firewall that can filter content and optionally issue e-mail alerts to users.

wep and netgear and mac don't combine, it is impossible to use wep on a netgear wifi router and os x so i guess the response to this article is who cares?

Subject: Why use WEP?

When WPA is safer and works with my PowerBook just fine. Use WPA-PSK and TKIP, it works just fine on my Netgear.

Installed Netgear 108 Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router with default open logon (no WEP), but the signal level appears to be rather weak. As far as I understand, there are no known OS X limits, so may be I'm doing something wrong?

How do I make a WPA Personal connection to a non Airport device like Netgear 108 mbps?

all searches i did when i first bought my 814v2 router from netgear revealed that you can't do wep on osx with netgear in general for some unknown reason, i found a lot of info on this at the apple forums and netgear was no help via phone unfortunately, so i did the best i could and hid my ssid plus set the router to only accept connections from pre-defined mac addresses
