TMO Exclusive - iPod Photo, 30" Cinema Display Among Hottest Amazon Products This Holiday Season

by , 10:30 AM EST, December 10th, 2004

Apple's iPod Photo and 30-inch Cinema HD Display are among the top selling electronics products for online retailer Amazon.com this Christmas season, the company told The Mac Observer.

"Apple products are selling very well," Molly Ingle, Amazon.com Senior PR Manager, told TMO. "We expect them to continue to be big sellers throughout the holiday season."

Ms. Ingle said Amazon has been able to meet demand for the majority of Apple products, including the 17- and 20-inch G5 iMac models, which are currently shipping within two to three days of an order.

"We've been able to meet demand on the iPod Photo and 30-inch displays and we have ample supply at this time," she said.

Other top-selling electronics products from Amazon include the Creative Zen Micro 5 GB MP3 player, the Canon PowerShot A400 3.2 MP Digital Camera, and the Epson Picturemate Personal Photo Printer, to name a few.

Amazon is reaping the benefit of a strong online retail buying season. Online shopping jumped 11% in unique shoppers the day after Thanksgiving as compared to the same day in 2003, according to the Nielsen/NetRatings Holiday eShopping Index, which tracks shopping activity at 109 key retail and shopping sites across ten categories.

Otherwise known as 'Black Friday,' the day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year. Nielsen/NetRatings reported 13.3 million people visiting online stores on November 26, or 26% more than the previous Friday, November 19.

eBay led the top online shopping destinations the day after Thanksgiving with 5.4 million online visitors. Amazon followed with 2.6 million, while Wal-Mart Stores saw 1.4 million shoppers. Rounding out the Top 5 sites were Target and BestBuy.com with 923,000 and 847,000 unique audience, respectively.

"the day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year"

Actually, it's my understanding that the Saturday just before Christmas has overtaken the Friday after Thanksgiving as the busiest day.

Not to lessen the massive retail craziness of Black Friday, just that it's been outdone.

All iMacs on Amazon have had 1 - 2 days shipping for a few weeks and have been in the top ten almost since launch.

Dual 2.5 G5 has been on the top sellers for a while too (currently 15th), also shipping in 1 - 2 days. It seems chip supply problems are solved.
