Kanguru Solutions Releases Flash Music Player for Mac/Win

Kanguru Solutions Releases Flash Music Player for Mac/Win

by , 2:15 AM EST, December 29th, 2004

Kanguru Solutions has released a new flash-based digital media device called the Kanguru Audio Flash. The device features an OLED screen, 1 gigabyte of flash-based memory, and support for MP3, WMA, and WAV files. The device can also act as a hard drive, and connects to both Mac and Windows systems through USB 2.0.

Other features of the device include a built in radio turner with up to 20 station presets. It also includes a built-in voice recorder, as well as a line-in for recording from other sources.

The full package comes with ear buds, a leather carry case, a neck strap, and a free AAA rechargeable battery pack.

The Kanguru Audio Flash

Flash-based digital media devices are the one aspect of the music player industry not currently dominated by Apple and the iPod. Several Wall Street analysts have recently said that they expect Apple to enter the market, however, with some saying it could happen as early as January's Macworld Expo San Francisco.

In the meanwhile, the Kanguru Audio Flash is priced at US$99, and the company said it is available now. You can find more information at Kanguru's Web site.

...but that's only for the 128Mb model!

If you want 1Gb, it's 200 bucks, so nobody should jump up and proclaim the death of the iPod just yet. Besides, Kangu-WHO?!!!

That external AAA battery charger is just soooooo fashionable too!

Likewise, nobody should proclaim the birth of the iPod flash just yet. I set it more likely that Apple would reduce the price of the iPod mini by $50 than release a flash based player with one quarter the storage for that price.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: I think the iPod flash is an invention of stock market analysts and rumor mongers (forgive my redundancy).

If you don't visit the website, you get the impression that Kanguru Solutions is selling an 1 Gbytes player for $99.

Jimothy - In place of eating crows, you might want to consider giving me an iTunes $15 gift card. The usual Apple practice is stay price with increased specifications, not reduce price for the same specifications.

Mace, I'll happily take your bet. If Apple announces a flash-based iPod at January's MacWorld, I'll buy you a $15 iTunes gift card. If they do not, you do the same for me.

(Note that I'm NOT betting they'll reduce the price of the iPod mini, but that they won't announce an iPod flash.)

If you're game, let's "shake" on it here for all to see. Sound like a deal?
