Apple Dons Brogue, Quietly Launches iTMS in Ireland

by , 10:00 PM EST, January 6th, 2005

Apple Computer has quietly launched the iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in Ireland, marking the 15th store in the company's growing fleet of international music stores. The Irish Examiner reported that the store was launched with more than 700,000 songs available for download, and that songs are priced at €.99.

This is the same price as the rest of the EU stores.

"We watched with great excitement as the iTunes service swept across Europe," said Chris Bell, Apple's director of product development in Ireland, to the Examiner, "and, finally, welcomed its arrival in Ireland. The joy in accessing the service is there's no subscription rates or no complicated rights in previewing downloads."

The newspaper also reports that the store is launching with exclusive tracks from Irish acts Damien Rice, The Thrills, The Pogues and the Corrs.
