GoDot Enters US Mac Market With Two Photo Viewers

TMO at CES - GoDot Enters US Mac Market With Two Photo Viewers

by , 11:45 AM EST, January 6th, 2005

LAS VEGAS, NV -- GoDot Technology introduced Thursday several digital media devices, including two hard drive music players, two flash-memory music players, and two portable image viewers with internal drives. GoDot is a Taiwanese manufacturer that is entering the US market for the first time, and at least two of those products, the image viewers, support the Mac.

Portable Photo Albums: The DPV 02 is a USB 2.0 portable photo album with a 100 gigabyte hard drive, a 9-in-1 card reader, Composite Video out, and support for JPEG and MJPEG image and movie files. It features a slide show option, a remote control, and 4 hour battery life.

The DPV 03 includes support for USB 1.1 and 2.0, a 100GB drive, an 8-in-1 card reader, Composite Video out, and support for JPEG and MJPEG image and movie files. It also offers the slide show, remote control, and 4 hour battery life.

Both devices support both Macs and Windows PCs, and pricing has not been announced.

Hard drive music players: The boringly named 8570 and is a USB 2.0 hard drive music with a 40GB hard drive, 12 hour battery life, a color LCD screen, a built-in FM tuner, and the ability to record voice, in-line signals, and signals from the built-in FM tuner. It plays MP3, WMA, and OGG music files, and can view JPEG, MJPEG, and MPEG4 image and movie files.

The 8470 is a music player with a built-in 4GB drive, 12 hour battery life, a microphone, and EQ. It supports MP3, WMA, and OGG music files.

The press release said the 8570 and 8470 are both Windows-only, while the company's Web site lists support for Mac OS 8.6 and above. Company spokespersons were not immediately available to clarify that, or give us specific pricing on the device.

Flash music players: The M2150 is a USB 1.1/2.0 music player with 512 megabytes of memory, an FM tuner and recorder, and support for MP3 and WMA files. It includes voice recording abilities and a 6 hour battery life.

The M1780 offers similar features, without the ability to record FM signals.

As with the hard drive players mentioned above, the company's press release said the products are Windows-only, while the Web site indicates they support the Mac.

This story will be updated with pricing information and clarification on Mac support on the music players when we get that information.

The photo viewers seem pretty cool. Better suited to pro photographers than the iPod Photos. Good move making them Mac compatible.

A bit more. It would be nice if they could make them to view more than just JPGs.

Still, very cool!
