Merrill Lynch Sees iPod shuffle, Mac mini As Hot Sellers
Merrill Lynch Sees iPod shuffle, Mac mini As Hot Sellers
by , 1:40 PM EST, January 12th, 2005
In a research report sent to clients Wednesday, Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich weighed in on Apple's announcements yesterday and said he believes both the iPod shuffle and Mac mini will be successes for the company.
Regarding the iPod shuffle, Milunovich wrote, "We continue to think Apple is building a sustainable consumer electronics franchise rather than just lucky [sic] with hot products." Milunovich believes Apple could take the top position of the flash-based MP3 market in the next few quarters.
Milunovich also expects the Mac mini will sell well both to PC switchers as well as Mac users. He believes the S-Video/composite video adapter included with the Mac mini, which allows it to hook up to a TV, "could be an overlooked feature that many a Mac lover will use to drive their TVs."
Merrill Lynch expects Apple to post a profit of 47 cents per share on $3.35 billion in sales when the company announces its December quarter earnings later today. The firm maintains its Buy rating with a $78 price target.

im rpetty sure you are right mrm-- and that adapter is i believe $20
which is not a bad cost at all, but they may be confused because it comes with the DVI to VGA adapter (and i just happen to have an old VGA to RGB adapter that came with my iBook
other than that, i am seriously pondering the Mac mini (and in fact, hooking it up to a TV)

The iMac Mini is a good idea, but I won't buy one until they add a G5 processor, improve the video card, include more memory (512 MB minimum), and include a bigger hard drive (120 GB). A slot to add an internal card (like the old LCs used to have) is also a necessity, otherwise the machine is very difficult to expand. If Apple can do this with the next revision for the same (or even lower) price, then I'll bite. Otherwise, no.

You obviously are not the targeted audience.
What you want is a Powermac G5.
And you want it for under 1000$.
And Apple sucks because they don't have this machine in their product lineup.
You are the guy who should buy a 500$ PC with a butt-ugly case and a total mess of cables inside connecting the cheapest electronic parts to find on the market.
You obviously are not the audience Apple is targeting...
You are part of DELLs targeted audience. Enjoy!
This is the first iteration. It will evolve. There are two evolutionary path:
1) Into an entertainment server with big harddisk capacity of at least 200 GBytes.
2) Into a desktop alternative to iMac and eMac.
For 1), the server will be connected to a LCD TV or to a broadband outlet. This model will likely be called Xserve mini or Eserve. Expect to come with iLife server edition.
For 2), either the CPU and GPU will be upgraded or optical drive will be downgraded. The models will likely be called iMac mini and eMac mini respectively. iMac mini will satisfy prosumers and eMac mini will satisfy education industry.
This is only the first salvo. Let's wait for Apple Expo. Peter Mehring, head of Mac hardware engineering will not disappoint us.
QuoteLOL. You just described a totally different product. Damn it I wish the Ford Explorer was a sports car! If they did that then I would totally buy a Ford Explorer!Guest wrote:
