Sonos Digital Music System Ships
by , 8:45 AM EST, January 27th, 2005
Sonos Inc. announced Thursday its digital music storage system -- the Sonos Digital Music System -- is now shipping.
The Sonos system lets users listen to digital music stored on a Mac, PC or Network Attached Storage (NAS) device from anywhere in a home.
The Sonos Digital Music System is made up of two parts: a 'ZonePlayer' a networked audio player that distributes, plays and amplifies music in a home, and the 'Sonos Controller', a wireless, full-color screen handheld device which allows a user to access, customize and control the music.
The ZonePlayer includes a 50 watts per channel amplifier, and can play back MP3, WMA, WAV and unprotected AAC files, as well as Internet radio stations.
Sonos is currently offering an introductory offer that bundles two ZonePlayers and one Controller for US$1,199. Additional ZonePlayers cost $499 and Controllers retail for $399.

"wow, this thing looks almost identical in form size and shape to the mac mini."
It's also identical in price, well at least once you buy the kit, each additional ZonePlayer is $499, the same price as a Mac mini. I think for the money, I'd rather have a bunch of minis to put in every room of the house... ![]()
