Developers News - Making Java Apps with Eclipse on Mac OS X
by , 6:00 AM EST, March 4th, 2005
The Apple Developer Connection (ADC) has posted a tutorial for making Java applications on Mac OS X using a popular coding tool called Eclipse. Titled "Developing Java Applications on Mac OS X with Eclipse," it is a follow-up to an earlier article called "Eclipse and Mac OS X: A Natural Combination," and takes you farther into using it.
Calling the learning curve for working with Eclipse steep, the article's purpose is to "help you start working on projects, get over the initial hurdles and become comfortable with Eclipse."
In addition, the article is set up around three examples that step developers through the different aspects of working with the software.
The Apple Developer Connection is Apple's developer arm, and Apple regularly posts how-tos and tutorials for developers at the ADC site. Access to the articles is open to anyone.

AFAIK Eclipse isn't just a coding tool. It's a full-fledged IDE for Java developers.
Eclipse is even more than an IDE, its a pluggable platform for delivering fast, great-looking Java applications. The Java IDE is what it's best known for (because it's the industry standard), but you can plug-in developer tools for C/C++, COBOL, etc.
