Apple Computer has posted an exclusive trailer for the film Serenity, Joss Whedon's big screen adaptation of his TV show Firefly. Fox canceled Firefly in 2004, though the show was highly praised by critics and fans alike. Since that time, Serenity has become a highly-anticipated movie.

Serenity, the first film from the franchise, picks up where the TV show ended, pitting the crew of the space ship Serenity against the Alliance over the fate of River. In Serenity, however, we learn more of the backstory on what the Alliance did to her, as well as seeing more of what she is capable of doing.

The trailer being hosted by Apple is an exclusive. Joss Whedon has long been known for his cooperation with Apple in using Macs on-screen in his TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as his screenwriting work with Steve Jobs' other company, Pixar, where he punched up scripts for the Toy Story franchise and other films.

If you are interested in learning more about Firefly before you see Serenity, you can buy the full 13 episode DVD set that includes episodes never broadcast by Fox (US$34.99 - Amazon).

Serenity will be released in theaters September 30th. You can learn more about the movie at the Serenity Web site.
