TMO at E3 - Microsoft Expands on Xbox 360's Relationship to iPod, Macs
by , 11:50 AM EDT, May 20th, 2005
LOS ANGELES -- Microsoft has confirmed that its upcoming XBox 360 video game console will synch with and view files stored on a variety of devices, including Apple's iPod. The capability, revealed at last week's unveiling, was discussed in further detail by Shane Kim of Microsoft's Xbox 360 division.
"We're going to integrate really well with the devices and content that people already have stored on other devices," he explained. "We demonstrated that you'll be able to access your photos and your music that's stored on other devices, CD players, an iPod, even a PSP."
The Xbox 360 will also be able to access and work with popular PDA and Bluetooth devices, such as Palm's products and Bluetooth-enabled cell phones, via its incorporated technologies. "You've got content stored on those devices. We can access it and we can play it from the Xbox 360 on your TV," said Mr. Kim.
From a more speculative viewpoint, Mr. Kim also noted that the Xbox 360 should be able to communicate with a Mac through its home networking implementation. This may become more widely used with Mac OS X's support of the Windows File Sharing protocol.
The Xbox 360 console, still in development, is due to ship in time for the 2005 holiday season.

i am so going to by xbox 360 but why did it come out so early when playstation 3 is coming out next year and game cube revalution is coming out next year is xbox 360 graphics going to be the wost or the best???? Ive bean wondering if i should wait to all yhe other systems come and see which one has the best graphics

Graphics are the least important component of gameplay. They can be impressive for a few minutes, but ultimately, the game needs to be FUN.
Don't worry about the graphics capabilities, worry about whether the console has the ability to attract good developers. The xBox has in the past, though Sony has been better at it. Nintendo can generate some very interesting and amazing games, but if you feel like interacting with other gamers, the limited choice makes it much less appealing.

OK, so Billy says "iPod is unsustainable" and now they concede that they need iPod compatibility in order to sell xboxen. Wonderful.
I hope Apple charges up the rear for this licensing...

Once again, Microsoft is about to sell a heckuva lot of blades.
It sounds like they're trying to make this thing take care of all multimedia needs. Of course no matter what the price of the box is, it won't make a profit. So what will run it? A piece of software from Microsoft, of course.
Millions of razors, tens of millions of blades.

While you're waiting for the xBox 360 to hit the shelves, you might want to spend some time upgrading your literacy. You're unlikely to get a job because you're a whiz at some video game, but you'll increase your chances of employment (beyond, "Do you want fries with that?") and higher education if you improve your spellng and use of language. If you fill out an employment application as you wrote above, almost no employer will even take a second look.
In all seriousness, get a good 6th-grade English book and study it carefully. (That assumes that you're past the 6th grade.) Try

I mean honestly. You should learn at least basic punctuation before you're allowed to post.
This comment may provoke some ire but, FWIW, this site has done a great job of attracting a community of intelligent, thoughtful, often provocative members who can turn on a dime from agent provocoteur to Mac super-user to newbie wetnurse.
TMO stands as an example of how proud a community should be when it is so carefully built and nurtured but, along with that pride comes a certain measure of protectiveness.
With so few sites of TMO's quality available to choose from, members will tend to react to an intrusion of posters/guests/contributors who represent some sort of erosion of what TMO has become.
Sadly, the only filter that can be applied in an online forum as an indicator of the genuineness of the poster, is the quality of their grammar/spelling/argument.

Also, punctuation, grammar and correct sentence structure, or the absence of it, is an affront to those of us who chose to pay attention to our teachers. It's a respect thing, you see?
I have every confidence that those people contributing to these forums whose use of the English language is sub-standard have many other desirable and rewarding qualities that they might bring to this forum, their society, and the world at large.
It would, however, be greatly appreciated if you could at least learn how to spell. You may just find it a valuable life skill. Further, what it is you have to say that is of relevance and value in terms of the discussion at hand, will likely garner more respect from the rest of us.

You might want to wait. Looking at the specs, the Playstation 3 is going to be roughly twice as powerful as the xbox 360.

I agree entirely with the comments made by Coaten. I have been a TMO member for a few years. When I started here, there were very few Guest posts, comments were correctly put, and it was a pleasure to simply browse around -- quite a different experience to other forum sites.
Recently, however, there seems to be an extraordinary number of Guest posts, often containing nothing but rubbish, with little or no bearing on the matter being discussed. Such posts often employ poor English -- I do not mean incorrect English of the sort that might be used by a non-English speaker, but simply bad English that I would consider below the level required by, say, an eleven year-old.
Is it not time for TMO to insists on registration prior to posting? It might not solve all of the problems, but it will be a deterrent to many wild posters.
