Apple Updates Keynote Security Issue; Fixes Pages Problems

by , 4:00 AM EDT, May 26th, 2005

Apple Computer released updates to its Keynote and Pages software products on Thursday.

Keynote 2.02, is an update to Apple's presentation application that addresses a security issue that previously allowed a "specially crafted" Keynote presentation together with a "keynote:" URI handler, to possibly read local files sent to an arbitrary network location. Apple said it has fixed this security issue by limiting references to external resources and removing the registration of a "keynote:" URI handler has been removed.

Users must have Keynote 2.0 installed in its original location to update to Keynote 2.0.2. "If you do not have Keynote 2.0, or if you have moved it from its original location, the updater will not work," Apple's update page said.

In addition, Apple also released Pages 1.02, an update to its word processing/layout application that addresses "issues with page navigation and organization," the company said.

Both updates are available via the Mac OS X Software Update utility, or directly from the product's update pages linked above.
