First on TMO - Report: 2GB & 4GB shuffle's Coming June/August
by , 12:30 AM EDT, May 27th, 2005
Apple Computer will launch two and four gigabyte (GB) versions of its flash-based iPod shuffle this June and August, the online Asian technology Web site DigiTimes reported Friday.
Sources told the online publication Samsung Electronics and Toshiba are "aggressively planning to ramp up their output of 8Gbit NAND flash chips" that will be used in "2GB and 4GB versions" of the shuffle that will be announced "this June and August", the report said.
Samsung Electronics was reported to have started volume production of 8Gbit NAND flash memory in April of this year. Samsung Electronics has been slashing the price of its 8Gbit NAND flash memory since the beginning of the year, with the original price of US$58 expected to eventually fall to $30, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News reported earlier this week.
In addition, Samsung has been lowering prices for all of its high-density parts, including 2Gbit, 4Gbit and 8Gbit NAND flash memory, with daily prices falling as much as 3%, the paper said. The company also expects to roll out a 16Gbit part in the second half of this year.
Toshiba stated it will begin producing 8Gbit NAND flash memory this summer.
Apple currently offers 512 megabyte and 1GB iPod Shuffle models.
Apple refused to comment on the report.

You must be, as well, to have posted a laundry list of your "accomplishments," when it would have been enought o simply say, "I have owned many iPods."
I learned a couple of new things about how a Shuffle could be used as more than just a "gym device." That's why I come to this page, to learn things I didn't know about these products.
Maybe someday we'll get to the point where every single post here is meaningless, but I'm glad to see a few people still like to share useful information from time to time.
The key to capturing the flash market is low cost and diversity. So, Apple is likely to release an iPod mini with 2 GBytes flash memory than an iPod shuffle with 2 GBytes. Price point $179
?
If a new iPod shuffle is to be released, I expect it to look different and at a lower cost. $49 is a good price point. $49-$79-$129 ![]()

I bought Quicktime Pro a while ago, and got registration number, etc. For that I PAID MONEY !
Then I bought TIGER. Now my new Quicktime 7 no longer has the Pro features. I tried to install the Serial Number I got when I PAID MONEY for Quicktime Pro, but TIGER will not accept it. Older versions of Quicktime Pro will not work, I am told, with TIGER.
So I called the Apple Store. I got told, TOUGH LUCK! BUY IT AGAIN!
Disgraceful! I feel CHEATED BY APPLE!

Old versions of QT do work with Tiger. They even have the installer available online.

Actually, I just paid the asking price for the QT7 Pro key and while it's always a sharp pain in the hip pocket to throw extra money at technology, I do not feel ripped off by Apple.
Having done some initial encoding tests with the H.264 codec, I look at that technology and appreciate that considerable effort went into its R&D.
I look at Tiger and think that considerable R&D went in to that, too.
I would be happier if Apple had an upgrade offer for owners of QT6 Pro. That would be fairer than forking out full price for 7. But I don't feel ripped off. When H.264 becomes a widely standardised codec for HD DVD, I will have some months of working with that codec under my belt.
That will make my services more marketable. That means I will earn either more money, or I will be able to maintain the status quo of my operations. Either way, the QT Pro 7 key is a small price to pay.
You don't hear too many plumbers complaining about the cost of gasket sealant, right?
You won't hear me complaining about small change for a pro tool.
