Music From Paris Hilton's Carl Jr.'s Ad Released on iTMS

Music From Paris Hilton's Carl Jr.'s Ad Released on iTMS

by , 1:00 AM EDT, June 9th, 2005

The background music from the much talked about Paris Hilton television commercial for Carl's Jr. has been released as an exclusive at Apple's iTunes Music Store (iTMS), record label HUM Recordings has announced.

The song -- Cole Porter's "I Love Paris" -- is sung by Eleni Mandell and is available for download for US$0.99. The song is part of an new television campaign by the hamburger chain. The new Spicy Burger television commercial features Hilton hotel heiress and reality TV star Paris Hilton in a skin-tight swimsuit soaping up a Bentley and crawling all over it before taking a big bite out of the burger.

The ad has drawn the ire of television watchdogs, including the Parents Television Council. A similar ad with Hilton for Hardee's hamburger chain, which is owned by subsidiary of CKE Restaurants, is expected to air next month.

must be a slow news day. commercialism at its finest. Lets see: burger king, paris hilton, apple, and the band that plays the music. its sad how much money they put into dumbing down society. Lets just put an ad on the side bar!

Oddly enough I found the ad so annoying I don't remember the music. For that matter I didn't know that it was an ad for Carl Jr. until someone told me.

Now that's effective advertising.

Subject: Odd combination, indeed

One of the strangest aspects of that idiotic commercial (idiotic in that it doesn't connect to the product very well--I must admit that it gets the attention of the 12-112 yo male crowd pretty well) is that Carl Karcher, the founder of Carl's, Jr., has been a notorious (in the strict sense) right-winger and supporter of "family values" and all that. He had the company philosophy posted in the stores, a screed that came up just short of the Ten Commandments. I expect that he's a bright man (albeit he dropped out of school in the eighth grade) and a loving father (12 kids), but I wonder how he reacts to this ad, if he's still alive. Some people do see the irony in this, however, using a notorious slut (again, in the strict sense of the word, given her sex tape that showed up on the Internet), with no talent and moderate good looks, who has or will have more money than many small countries, to advertise their product. I had similar objections to earlier ads that seemed to endorse self-centered (which Karcher was not), uncaring (again, which he was not), and irresponsible behavior, mostly by young men--and I'm no conservative. There is an online petition asking the company to pull the ads:

http://www.petitiononline.com/phcj666/petition.html

I won't add my name, as it's likely irrelevant and the ads are nowhere near the worst on TV. There are lots of ads on TV that make men look stupid, boorish, or worse--next time you see one of those, change the genders in the ad in your mind and see how quickly women would object to them. (E.g., do you think that Capital One could get away with using a woman to do their "No" ads, instead of two sloppy male jerks?)

So, the ad, who give's a $#!%, it's just another sex->product link.

But I really loved the girl's voice who sings the song on the ad, found some of her stuff online. She has a damn hot voice. Her style, as best I can describe it, is a sulty country/blue's thing (you can imagine she's the girl leadbelly was asking "where did you sleep last night").
