Open Source App Nvu 1.0 Provides WYSIWYG Web Page Editing
by , 1:35 PM EDT, June 29th, 2005
Disruptive Innovations on Wednesday released Nvu 1.0, an open source application that provides WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) Web page editing. It features a spellchecker, compliance with HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 standards, tabbed editing for working on multiple pages, integrated FTP Web site management, a CSS (cascading style sheet) editor and more. The developer notes on its site that code created with Nvu is compatible "with all of today's most popular browsers." Mac OS X v10.1.5 or higher is required.
Observer Comments
just installed this and it feels promising. Try inserting a table and I bet you have a little smile creep across your face. If there are more inspired pieces of interface design in there I might convert completely...
I have been using and teaching Dreamweaver since v 1.2 but Dreamweaver just keeps getting more complex and expensive. DW has left a gap in the market for a simpler, cheaper rival for beginners to learn and work with and this looks good and is a price students and colleges can afford - free.
