Mathematica 5.2 Includes Support for 64-Bit Computations

by , 12:00 AM EDT, July 13th, 2005

Wolfram Research has released Mathematica 5.2, the latest version of its high-end computational software. This upgrade introduces 64-bit technology, enabling the application to address more than 4.3GB of memory and process large numbers in 64-bit chunks, speeding their computation. Other changes include improvements to vector-based performance, vCard and RSS import, SSH support for secure remote kernels, new algorithms for symbolic differential equations, better statistics charts and more.

Current users will need to visit Wolfram's online store and enter their serial numbers to obtain upgrade pricing. The full software is US$1,880, which includes one year of premier service support. Academic and site license discounts are available. Users who want to take advantage of Mathematica's 64-bit capabilities will need a G5 processor and Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger."
