OWC Intros 1TB Mercury Elite FireWire RAID Drive

Other World Computing (OWC) on Tuesday announced that it has added a 1TB model to its line of Mercury Elite-AL Pro FireWire 800 RAID drives. The US$979.99 setup features a pair of 7200RPM drives in an aluminum case designed to complement the Power Mac G5 and comes with Dantz/EMC Retrospect Backup and Intech Hard Disk Speed Tools software.

The company also added a 500GB single bay version of the Mercury Elite-AL Pro. It comes with three different types of connectivity options: FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ($499.99); FireWire 400/800 ($519.99); and FireWire 400/800 and USB 2.0 ($529.99).

If only I had that kinda money to throw around. IMO, an almost 1:1 GB to $$ ratio is no longer a good deal, even on an external once it gets this high in capacity. I would pay $800 for 1 TB, but just shy of 1K is too much for me.
