Canon Debuts Two New Optura Mini-DV Camcorders

Canon on Thursday debuted two new Optura Mini-DV camcorders: the diminutive, 4.3 megapixel 600 and the 2.2 megapixel S1. The Optura 600 can snap still images in addition to shooting video in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. It features continuous shooting mode, image effects and built-in flash with red-eye reduction, as well as simultaneous photo recording that enables the capture of photos will shooting video. It uses SD storage cards and connects to a computer via USB 2.0. It will ship in September with a US$1,099 price tag.

The Optura S1 ($799), which will also ship in September, offers built-in image stabilization to reduce shakiness in video and a built-in video light. It also features auto exposure bracketing, nine point AiAF, continuous shooting mode, image effects and photo review. Like the 600, the S1 can also capture still images, although it can't do so while shooting video. It uses miniSD storage cards and USB 2.0 connectivity.

Which is kind of important for minor chores like, oh, importing video into a Mac....
