Apple Promotes Tim Cook to COO, Says Rubinstein Will Retire
by , 2:40 PM EDT, October 14th, 2005
Apple on Friday announced that Tim Cook, the company's executive vice-president of worldwide sales and operations, is now Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr. Cook is now Apple's number two executive, behind CEO Steve Jobs. The company also said that Jon Rubinstein, senior vice-president of the iPod division, will retire on March 31, 2006. Tony Fadell, currently vice-president of iPod engineering, will succeed him.
"Tim has been doing this job for over two years now, and it's high time we officially recognized it with this promotion," Mr. Jobs said in a statement.
Of Mr. Rubinstein, he commented: "I've worked with Jon for over 15 years, and we're going to miss him. Jon has done an excellent job as a member of Apple's senior management team, as well as building our world-class iPod engineering team and running our hardware engineering team prior to that."
Observer Comments
At the rate he's going, the Holographic iPod Nanos will be end-of lifed and the 4D iPod Pico (with ability to go forward or back in time 100 years) will be hanging from everyone's ear or implanted in 10 million breasts. 5 months is a long time in the iPod world!
