IBM to Announce OS X Support for Lotus Notes

by , 4:55 PM EST, January 20th, 2006

At next week's Lotusphere conference, IBM's Software Group will announce that it has added Mac OS X support to the latest version of Lotus Notes. In addition, the company will "pledge big-time suppor for the new Intel-based Macs due later this year," according to an article at InformationWeek.

Reporter Barbara Darrow, citing unnamed sources, said that while Lotus Notes 6.5 supports Mac OS X, Lotus Notes 7 has not offered that so far. She quoted Jim Murphy, practice manager for Strategic Computer Solutions, as saying that while Macs are used by around 1% of the employees in the research departments at many of his customers, "they have 99% of the influence."

An IBM spokesman declined to comment.

Subject: I am soo sorry to hear that

It isn't Lotus/Domino.. it is your support and admin. I am an domino administration consultant having worked with BankersBank, Porsche USA and others and know that most of the issues are from poor administration or underpowered oversold roleouts. Sorry to hear your are joining the MS world and offer you the best of luck!

But this is indeed good news for MAC OS X!..

Subject: Notes is a piece of ... junk

I'm saddled with Notes 6.5 on my Macs at work. I swear, Notes has only two purposes in life: make Outlook seem decent by comparison, and keep Notes admins (almost the only people who actually like it, despite a recent charm offensive) employed.

A typical exchange with the Notes admins:

Them: What new things can we build for you?
Me: Just make the document approval tool work right!
Them: We can't make any changes to it.

You need the letters IT to spell IncompetenT.
