MacBook Pro Ships

MacBook Pro Ships

by , 8:35 AM EST, February 14th, 2006

Apple began shipping the new Intel-based MacBook Pro on Tuesday morning. Two 15-inch models are available: a 1.83GHz for US$1,999, and a 2GHz model for $2,499, both using the Intel Core Duo processor. The 1.83GHz model will start shipping next week, and the 2GHz model is shipping this week. People that ordered a MacBook Pro early should start seeing deliveries in the next few days.

Apple has also added a new build-to-order 2.16GHz Core Duo processor option for 2GHz model for an additional $300.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, commented "The new MacBook Pro includes even faster Intel Core Duo processors than originally announced, up to 2.16 GHz, and we think customers are going to love them."

Upgrade a 2GHz MacBook Pro to 2.16GHz for $300.

The MacBook Pro replaces the PowerPC-based PowerBook G4. New orders are showing a 3-4 week ship time.

Subject: Anal-ists

Analysts are just - Anal-ists. Even if they understood the technologies and their applications which they pompously purport to, but dont, their heads are so far up their asses and they are so self absorbed that even when fact and reality show them to be asses that never get it right, they still shamelessly continue to to show and inflict their ingnorance . I'm referingto all the reports that apple wont ship on time etc...

Subject: Telephone Info

I called the Apple 800 number for current orders and the recorded message confirmed that all orders through 2.13.06 are being upgraded to the newer processors, and that emails will be sent out confirming same, and that the web site should show the change by Wednesday, 2.15.06. I also found out that many orders now showing a 2.15 ship date will soon show a 2.28 ship date, which seems odd, since Apple has said they will start shipping this week. I decided to forego an upgrade to the 2.16 processor, because it is another $300, the speed bump difference is hard to imagine as being significant, and doing so would cancel my current order placed 1.10, and put me at the end of the queue. Also, 2.16 processors might not ship for another 3-4 weeks. That's what I was told anyway.

Subject: 2.16 Ghz Ship time

This is not true. If you order a 2.16 GHz the web currently lists the ship time as 3-4 days. For the standard 2Ghz it is listed as 3-4 weeks. If you were to change you order from 2Ghz -> 2.16 GHz I will bet that you would get your machine about the same time or faster. It sounds like supplies are tighter on the 2 GHz.

It's interesting... if you choose 2.16 GHz, the ship date drops to 1-3 business days. But even if you leave it at 2.0GHz and simply change the hard drive option, the ship date *also* drops to 1-3 business days. Very odd...

Apple's initial choice of the two slowest Yonah speeds was a puzzler, but now they've speed-bumped things right in line with the competition. Good move!

The on-line UK Apple store has not been updated to the faster MacBook Pro speeds. Strange.

Maybe speed is not needed in the UK!
