OmniPilot Software Inc. held its annual Lasso Summit last weekend -- the highlight was the release of Lasso Professional Server 8.5, which is a Universal Binary that also includes support for Web 2.0 techniques, built-in LDAP integration, shell support, the ability to specify data sources with inlines, and support for native data sources including FileMaker, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle and others.

Other changes include the ability to view prioritize and abort threads from the Admin and enhancements to e-mail, including direct sending to remote SMTP servers, SSL support, improved encoding speed and better support for attachments. Full pricing is US$649, with upgrades from version 8 starting at $349. Lasso Professional Alliance members receive one free copy of Lasso Professional Server 8.5 with their current memberships.
