Apple Ranks #11 on Fortune's Most Admired Companies List
by , 2:20 PM EST, February 22nd, 2006
Fortune magazine's annual list of the most admired companies in America is out now, and Apple ranks number 11, with top ten finishes on eight industry sub-lists and the number two spot in the computer industry. The company ranked first on the Innovation, Employee Talent and Quality of Products/Services lists, third on the Use of Corporate Assets and Quality of Management lists, and sixth when it came to Social Responsibility, Financial Soundness and Long-Term Investment.
Apple's 7.14 overall score placed it just behind IBM's 7.31, which was good enough to lead the computer industry. Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Pitney Bowes, Canon, Dell, Sun Microsystems, NCR and Gateway rounded out the rest of the computer industry's top ten.
General Electric was number one on the overall list, followed by FedEx, Southwest Airlines, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson, Berkshire Hathaway, Dell, Toyota and Microsoft. Trailing Apple and rounding out the top 20 were Wal-Mart, UPS, Home Depot, Pepsi, Costco, American Express, Goldman Sachs, IBM and 3M.
