Avie Tevanian to Leave Apple

Avie Tevanian to Leave Apple

by , 8:25 AM EST, March 28th, 2006

Apple's chief technology officer, Avadis "Avie" Tevanian, is retiring from the company to pursue other interests. According to SFGate, his official last day is March 31, but he hasn't said what his post-Apple plans are yet.

Mr. Tevanian started at Apple in 1997, and has been instrumental in the development of Mac OS X. Previously, he worked for Steve Jobs at NeXT. He was also very active in the development of the Mach kernel, which is used in Mac OS X, while working on his M.S. and Ph.D degrees at Carnegie Mellon University.

Jon "Jonie" Rubenstein is also leaving. Let's just hope that Steve "Stevie" Jobs sticks around for awhile longer.

I'm sure Leopard's foundation has been laid and Avie played a part in that. All Apple has to do now is finish it off with the touches it usually makes to every area of the OS.

I hope Avie writes a book or talks about Apple and Steve sometime soon. It's always fascinating to know what goes on inside the world's greatest computer company.

Let's hope that Rick Rashid doesn't suck Tevanian into the Redmond black hole...

Future headline -- "Tevanian joins Microsoft"

After a hiatus to recharge his batteries, Avie Tevaninian has joined Microsoft to head up its troubled Windows division...

Usually "he left to pursue other interests" is PR-speak for "we fired him." I hope that's not the case this time.

Here's hoping Avie, for whatever reason he left, lands on his feet (and not at Microslobber!).
